Eleven- Ally
Less’s big SUV wound through many twists and turns, went through many little towns and still we hadn’t made it to the province of Quebec. I wanted so badly to go home it was killing me.
We stopped at ten gas stations and bought a whole bunch of food and drinks for the trip. We didn’t have a plan, but we’d figure something out; we’d probably live with Less’s brother, Stephen until we got on our feet. I asked if we could live with Cale’s parents but they were dead as well. They had commit suicide four years ago due to the kidnapping of Caleb. When Cale found his way back home, he no longer had one. Everything was gone.
I watched Caleb sleeping for a little while and smiled at the thought of us being happy for once.
Maybe it was worth it to not know what was going to happen next, maybe just maybe I’d really have a good family. “Maybe Caleb and I could go-” there was a loud bang and the truck swerved off the road followed by Cale falling into my lap, his head a bloody mess of hair, his eyes distant. I screamed for Less to stop driving but it was too late, the car flipped over and we were sent flying into the air.
We flipped three times before the truck landed right side up on the side of the dirt road and the car that driving along behind us was now gone.
I undid my seatbelt and took a look at Caleb. My heart broke; he was going to die. Caleb had been shot in the head and was losing so much blood. I tried to summon up a spell that could help him, but no words came to me. I pushed him off of me and lay him down on the seat as I walked out of the car to the driver’s side.
Lesley looked fine but his eyes gave away his pain.
He turned around and smiled at me with sad eyes, “ It’s not your time yet child. And it ain’t mine either, not now. Help me out will you, how is Caleb? He’s okay isn’t he?” he asked.
I didn’t answer him with words; I couldn’t find the words to say. I just shook my head, bowed it down and began to sob.
Lesley got out of the car and just held me until he too was sobbing and still, he held on.
All of a sudden I noticed something strange about him; he was getting heavier and heavier. Was he leaning on me? I was confused. “Lesley, are you alright?” I asked.
Lesley nodded but all of a sudden I noticed the bullet wound on his chest I reached out to touch it and he fell. Once again I screamed but this time, I passed out.
